Sunday 26 December 2010

Okay so as most of you know I've been having work experience with George at ASDA, in their offices based in Lutterworth! It's supposed to be 2 weeks worth of work exp, but with christmas in the way - it's more like 6 days spread over 2 weeks (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday!) None the less, it's experience! And I've been enjoying it SO much! I can't get over how nice everyone is down there! It's such a great environment to be working in.

I've been putting together fabric folders for the design team in the Menswear department. I've become a pro fabric cutter! lol. Yes, Lorna you should feel proud! But don't test me on it. And apparantley next week they're launching a new Denim project, or something. So they're letting me sit through the discussions and meetings.

The food is good! And so, so cheap + Free lattes and hot drinks all day? This just makes me happy.

I will try and snap a few photos and upload them on here as soon as.

Peace Out.

Define Perfection?
.........................................................
So everyone has their own opinions and definitions of what they believe to be perfection. But realistically, are women doing it for themselves or do they care more about what men think of them? Do we define what beauty is... or do men decide it for us, and we're led to believe that it is infact what we think?
Skinny girls, Curvey girls, Thin eyebrows, Big bold eyebrows, Tattoos no tattoos? Everyone will have an opinion on what they think is beautiful or not.
I feel like so many girls care so much about what other people they think, they're losing what truly makes them happy. When did we become a generation who felt beautiful only after a compliment and a bit of attention? It feels like instead of sticking together girls feel more in competition with each other to score attention. On a personal level I dress with what I feel looks good on me, I dress the way I do because I love what I wear - and feel more confident (despite having no money... and pretty much wearing the same thing over and over lol.) Who cares what guys think, honestly. Someone will find you interesting. Besides a big personality will outscore any of your imperfections.
I remember being at the Clothes Show and just people watching... Sounds sad I know, but on the stand when it wasn't busy there really wasn't much else to do! I found all the girls from the younger generation just all dressed and almost looked the same! You'd get the odd girl who would stand out, but most just look like they'd fallen out the Topshop wardrobe. It's worrying to think that they've lost there sense of style and wear what they've seen exact out of a magazine. Where's the experimentation, where's the personal touch?
It's worrying.
Oh Hello....
So I've somehow come across design proposals for Kate Middleton's wedding dress, from designers such as Vera Wang, Valentino, Karl Largerfield, Chris Benz.
A little bit intregued to see what Vivienne Westwood's come up with! But I'm pretty sure her ideas will be hush hush if she does do anything.

So I'm sat in Production - work finished. Blogging! Life is good, what better way to end college then listening to a bit of Whitney Houston?

Florence Manlik
In textiles we were given some artists as references for this project, and I find myself completley drawn to Florence's work. It's a beaut. They've just got so much movement and life to it, yet it's so simply done. I've experimented using this technique, which I'll scan through and upload later!

Inspire Me.
I'm actually completley in love with this project, despite my current lack of motivation and distraction. It's the end of term, I'm allowed to be a little lazy :)
For once I'm actually excited about the textiles element, I just feel there's soo much that can be done. I'm looking forward to sketching, sketching, sketching over the holidays! and collecting all sorts of research. I've started thinking about brands that I'd like to design this collection, and it's currently between Reiss/All Saints.
Reiss, I just love the whole image. I'm a huge huge fan, and writing up a consumer profile would describe exactly who I'd love to design for.
All Saints, I feel there's so much that can be done in terms of experimentation because it's all so so unique! The shapes and overall styles.
So I'm in the process of decision making!

Oh hello, Little Black Dress...

Weekend in Birmingham...
I've spent the whole weekend in Birmingham, and have to admit it was a verrry good one. Spent Friday - Saturday with my friend :) And Birmingham looks so so pretty at night time! And they were playing Christmas songs which made me smile a lot...
Was such a beautiful two days, minus the crazy amounts of people in town. I must have ran over half of their toes with my suitcase! oops.
Clothes Show 2010
I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the stand. It looks pretty good! Yesterday was my first day at the showmand to be completley honest I wasn't too impressed with it whilst walking around on my break. All the clothes felt cheap, and quite tacky. Minus the leather shorts I fell in love with from COW.
Jeff Brazier was presenting the Company catwalk events, and I felt the need to remind him a little that he interviewed me, Sanah and Alifya for This Morning, GMTV. Which can I say, he did remember :) His son is such a cutie!
I was working with Lorna and Sarah, which was a lot of fun :)
The journey home was a bit of a nightmare, realising it was a Sunday I found out all my trains to Leicester had been cancelled! gr. So they stuck me on a bus down to Nuneaton, which I then had to run for the Leicester train. And spent the most part of the journey home standing up. Yeah - carrying 3 heavy bags was really not too fun. But nevermind, I made it home at around 9, sat with the family to watch Kick Ass. Always a good end to the day!
Creative Block ?
Uhhhh, I feel so demotivated! and distracted from work! It's amazing where you end up wondering of to in the mist of procrascination! Grr. I think I've managed to convince myself that I need to eat on the every half an hour, and of course I need to look through my photos? Tidy my room, watch a bit of TV? believing that I have nothing to do.
Peace.

Wednesday 1 December 2010

So I've been after a tattoo for absolut ages! And I'm thinking to just suck it up and take the pain? I've wanted one on my wrist of like my grandparents names written in Hindi. Or just a simple quote which is true to my life.
Ah.decisions!
P.S mum if you read this, accept it :)
Mini Rant.
Ahh so today started of all wrong. I woke up not so nice and early, forced myself to change in the cold... Packed my bag for college and got a lift to the station. I have to catch a train into Leicester, and the train the goes through comes from Nottingham. So apparantly the whole of the East Midlands is just flooded with snow! It looks beautiful yes. But it's a massive pain. I got to the station, and was stood waiting on the platform for a good hour. Everyone began getting there Iphone and BB's out, me being totally clueless as to what to even search for. Some up, train got cancelled. and then cancelled again, and again....
Luckily, mum came to pick me up and told me not to go in, just incase I strand myself in Birmingham. Which knowing my luck - it would happen.
I spent today working on my garment, and it's still not finished. GR.
Lesson Learnt, never underestimate the importance of the finishing touches. They take the longest! And I'm still procrastinating by blogging. Booo.
Winter Wedding
So I'm a little bit in love with this trend, the colours the drapse. It's all a beaut.

Life Drawing...
I'm really enjoying Life Drawing Lessons at the moment, I feel as if I'm improving so much more then how I started last year. I love the experimental techniques we've been using, it makes what we draw look that much more interesting.
In last weeks lesson we did a group task, through a projecter an image of the skeleton was put up. In groups of 3/4 we each picked a part to trace of then paint + add in detail. It started of with me and MiMi, we picked the head, and ended up with ribs and a neck too lol. But Lucy later joined our group :) Here are some of the images of development, and how the final outcome looked!

Tuesday 2 November 2010

Diwali! Diwali!
I could not be any more excited for Diwali!

This is actually the first time I'm going to be celebrating it in Leicester and I can't wait! Leicester known for it's large Asian community always celebrate it BIG, according to the website it's the biggest outside of India. The whole of Belgrave and Melton road will be closed down for it. The event starts early evening, filled with entertainment on the stage which I can only assume is dancing, singing and maybe some speaches? The city will be lit up with the beauuuuutiful lights which were switched on to mark the upcoming events two weeks ago. Fireworks expected to go off around half 8. Followed by dinner at our favourite resturant 'Bobbys'

I bought my new suit from Luton (I'll upload the picture soon!)

Uff I can't wait.... mark the new year with family and friends!

I'll take lots of pictures and of course, blog them up the following day!

Monday 1 November 2010

A Beautiful Sunday Halloween.
So Sunday was a pretty relaxed day... and a very chilled out night...
In the morning I went down to Nottingham and met up with my brother and dad for the first time since they'd got back from Kenya. My 'dadi' (grandma on my dad's side) sent back this gorgeous gold chain with my name on it! And as per usual, we got our regular foods flown back aswell. It didn't take long before they suggested 'let's go to the pub!' So spent about an hour or so in there catching up! playing some pool and planning our next trip (preferrably all together) down to Kenya for my other cousins wedding... which is apparantly in the Summer of 2012. So, so excited!
Sunday afternoon - evening - later that night, pretty much consisted of champagne, beauty treatments, sausage rolls and of course birthday cake! It was a close family friend's birthday, and also less then two weeks before her launch of her own beauty product. Called 'THEA' - keep a watch out for it, these products are damn good! I'll post up the website once it's up and running, and blog up some more info on it soon!
There was also a photoshoot session going on amongst the alcohol and beauty treatments, these are going to be used for the website! So watch out for my face :D
Peace Out x

Development, Development AND MORE DEVELOPMENT.
I actually don't think I have ever done so much development for any other project! I'm hoping it will all pay off - through a nice crit prefferably :) I love this project so much, but for some reason keep struggling to not go off on that 'pretty' look. Uff crits help so much! Especially bad ones funnily enough. So my design continously keeps on changing! Everytime I think I have a final design - through the toiling process I keep changing it, I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not really? It's a little bit annoying as I think I've drawn a thousand flats! Not the most fun thing to draw - and I don't even know if I've got them right! lol.
I think this is the first time in the holidays where I've actually managed to sit down and just blog! So I'm in Luton at the moment - spending the week at my Grandparents :) My plan is to basically get everything done. I've set myself a little timetable (in hopes that I stick to it!)
Wednesday - Get all my overlocking done, Toile my skirt.
Thursday- Finish final corset.
Friday- Finish final skirt.
Saturday- Drapse over garment
I would love to say from Saturday I just intend on sleeping through till college on Monday, my lack of sleep is ridiculous! However half term is helping me! But anyways Sunday my brothers down in Nottingham and Dad too! They're back from Kenya tomorrow so I intend on seeing them for a little pub catch up this Sunday! (My little rant....
Urgh they were in Kenya for a whole month! for my first cousins wedding! and I had to miss it for college! The sacrifices I makeeee! I was gutted about it. But I'm slightly over it now)
Anyways mini update on life!
X
And I've just realised I have Lornas homework to do.... craaaaaaaaaaap.

Todays Life Drawing!
I really enjoyed todays Life Drawing lesson! Despite the slightly odd angle I was faced with...
I love the techniques we used, and how making the mistakes is what made the illustration work! I managed to make a LOT of these mistakes lol, making my illustration look really abstract, which I completley loved - despite being unable to actually tell what the hell it is I've drawn! We used white paints! Inks! Pencil! Charcol! and lots of mixing and matching!
