Chunari!

So my cousins wedding's coming up next Saturday, which I am sooo excited for!! Especially after today, It's got me into the wedding mood :) This is like the first close family wedding we've had, it's my first cousin Anneka getting married.
Today was like a religious event called the 'Chunari' it's where the groom side gives the bride gifts and dresses a 'Chunari' on her which is like a sari really. Everyone looked amazing, I love that we can look like walking fluorescent lights on weddings :D The bride to be looked absolutley beautiful!
The ceremony started of with both sides of the family greeting each other, we welcomed the grooms side in at the doorway, before we went into the hall. There was a beautiful Mandip set up, with seats at the front. The priest did his part and completed some ritual, before the bride to be made her entrance. The music was playing in the background, and I think her entry song was 'Hum Tum, from the film Hum Tum'

Anneka went on stage with her sister supporting her, then the groom Sanjay joined. Sanjay's family presented gifts to Anneka, and wrapped a 'Chunari' around her. It was fascinating to watch!

We all went up on the Mandip to greet them, and congratulate them :) And took lots of photos, which I have none of lol. But my cousins sending me them all tonight, so I will post them up!!

She's already sent me this one, which is of my cousin Reshma, Anneka and myself.

I wish I could pull it off, Damn these models!

CHLOE AW 10/11
Holidays, Bored much. You know how it is, I started looking through collections and came across CHLOE's Autumn/Winter 10-11. I've never been a fan of Chloe, it's always been the same colours, the same style. Well that's what I thought, perhaps because I never really payed much attention to the actual garments. But I completley love this collection! Maybe it's just the tan colour I love, and the slouchy look they have about them. They look relaxed and so comfortable!
Plus look how fit the models are! My hair can never look that good.uh.

My Grandma Has Cool Cardigans... What Does Yours Have?
It's all practically vintage! Uff some of the old cardigans and jewellary my Nani has... is right on trend!! I've been nosying around through all the draws and wardrobes at my Nani's house and have found some pretty interesting stuff. Which she has given me permission to 'borrow' / take it back to Nottingham with me :D
Love her.
Housewife Much ?
So I have been without internet for just under the week! It is ridiculous how much we rely on it! But it's up and running now, I'm in Luton at the moment and feel like a housewife in training
My Nani has been really unwell, so I've been doing all the cooking and cleaning! She's taught me how to make the rotis and all the different currys. I'm slightly impressed with my cooking skills I must say. I took pictures on my phone, so when I can be bothered to upload them up, I will!
It's been a bit of an emotional week, my Nani has to go in for an operation on Monday where she'll stay for the week. It's hard to deal with, this is the first time she's been really bad - I treat her like my mum.
I was meant to be coming home on Sunday but after finding this out my stay is extending! :) I don't think I've ever stayed in Luton without my Nani being there.
On a positive note, I've managed to get a LOT of work done for this project. Nearly at the end of my first sketchbook, so happy days!! I love it, I never realised how interesting it would actually be. I'm so focused!

Happy Days. Happy Nights
So the past few days have been pretty good, minus the NO SLEEP. No seriously.

It started on Wednesday after the 'Hustle' meeting. I met up with Sanah after to doss around town, I wanted to make use out of the money I spent to come down to Birmingham. So I dossed in the city a bit longer then I should have :)
Sanah had her beautiful son Rayn with her!! He's a little Burberry Model! Minus the crayons on his new trench coat (partly my fault. sorry aunty!) and felt tips all over his hands lol. I spent a couple of hours with them, she made me walk. A lot. I think it was for her own benefit mainly, she needs it :D (I love you!)

I thought it was time to go home, so I then walked up to the station. I phoned Baby Sandy up to give me some company on the phone, and he convinced me to stay a little bit longer so we can have cookie dough!! As he walked up to meet me, I went around the shops in Bullring, trying on and crying about everything I can't afford and want! Boo. being jobless sucks. He turned up, a little on asian timing 8-) and we went to Pizza Hut.
We saw a girl we know (Sandeeps best friend) But with us both being stupidly short sighted we couldn't work out if it was her or not. So, doing the obvious. We shouted her name. Thank God! it was her, lol. She was already having lunch, but we met up after and chilled around together before I went back home.

When I went back to Nottingham, I met up with two of my good friends Nida and Sana. We went to some sheesha place called 'The Factory' which we spent most of the evening chilling in. I don't do sheesha, but I do drink the milkshakes :D

Thursday?
The day of the 'Hustle'
Getting up at 5 after so long was a task and a half! These holidays are making me lazy! hence the reason I decided to be involved in helping out with the production team of 'Hustle' It gave me some sense of direction!
The day itself was really good :) It was nice and chilled out but yet so much got done! I attempted modelling? lol, I was all nervous at the start but was completley relaxed through the end thanks to the photographers (Sarah & Laura)

Yes. This if my pulling face.

Thursday Evening?
Dinner date with Sanah Ghazni. Pizza Express? Nom nom nom :) It was on this dinner date i discovered....

Lol, the retard was walking around for the past few days with the words 'dry cleaning' pinned on her trench coat. Love her a little bit, only because she makes me seem more mature :)

Thursday Night...
What a night! It was my friend Nikkis birthday so a group of us went out on Broad Street. We had the hotel 'Etap' booked out? Nice and Cheap:) Although we got into a lot of trouble... Making too much noise 8-)
I reached the hotel quite early and met them all there. We didn't go out till about 11 in the evening, then just stayed in one bar all night. It was such a nice bar though:) the music was good too! The bar closed around 2 ish, which sucked a bit.. then we spent the half an hour after hanging around trying to decide what to do! Conclusion: Order Pizza, go back to the hotel :)

I suceeded in getting no sleep! And I'm on some hyper thing now waiting for the lack of sleep to hit me! So I thought, why not blog
:)

FAT FACE.
Because I can?

Hiding, Taking A Break!

So for the most part of the afternoon we've been clearing the garage out! And now I'm giving myself a blogging break :) The amount of STUFF collected over the years is ridiculous! If you don't believe me... look at the pictures! And that's only a fraction of it! Lesson learned: Have regular clear outs!

My brother lured his friends to come here and help by telling them to meet up for a pub session. But after all this is sorted I'm looking forward to going to the bar for a well deserved drink :)

Anyways before they all wonder where I've disappeared to, I better get back to it.

Norman Hartnell

Norman Hartnell

Whilst doing some research into designers for the Royal Blue project I came across a man called Norman Hartnell who is known for being a couturist to the Royal Family, such as Margaret, Princess Diana and even Queen Elizabeth II. I actually became quite drawn to Princess Margaret's style, some of the dresses Hartnell designed for her are incredible.

Royal Blue!

I've always been somewhat fascinated with history, going back and looking at true events just keeps my mind completley focused on what I'm doing. That's the reason I love this project! Going back and looking at the lives and stories of the Royal family is so interesting! it's impossible to lose focus!
From the starting point at Kensington Palace, I've done so much more research into the lives of the 7 princesses who had lived there. I'm really drawn to Queen Victoria, her life, and her story. The fact that her home at Kensington Palace felt like a prison to her, she felt trapped and away from the prime of life. She had so much weight on he shoulders, being so young when she was announced Queen of England.

I've recently watched 'The Young Victoria'

I felt this film was so true to her, it portrayed her as she was - a side that I never expected her to be. She was a strong woman, one who can be admired. Emily Blunt played her character so well! I was completley impressed. The love between her and Albert was so strong and one that no one expected. It's heartbreaking to think that he died so early, and she still had so many more years to live after.
From hsi death onwards, Queen Victoria was known for being the lady in black. She would still always lay out his clothes every morning. I'm hopefully going to visit the 'Victoria and Albert: Art & Love' Exhibition at Buckingham Palace some point this Summer.

Here are some images of Emily Blunts photoshoot with Vanity Fair, including some Haute Couture pieces by John Galliano, In Givenchy and Dior.

I've also recently ordered the book: 'Queen Victoria: (Essential Biography) by Elizabeth Longford, which will hopefully give me a bit more of an insight into her life.
