'The Men and Women of Allah'

This whole debate over the Burka has raised such a heated discussion amongst everyone. It's such a sensitive issue, yet Turkish fashion designer Erkan Coruh has faced the challenge of creating a collection 'The Men and Women of Allah' trying to find a balance between Western and Islamic traditional attire. He experimented with changing styles of the Burka within various other garments. I rate him for taking on this challenge.

I LOVE MCQUEEN!!!
This collection is SO inspirational for this 'Royal Blue' Project!

Loves!!! I love the contrasting fabrics, and the colours. The shape of the dress, everything just works! This whole collection proves that using Royalty as inspiration doesn't mean costume. McQueen has made the perfect catwalk collection... Uff he never gets it wrong. The Royal colours look incredible against the white!

Saturday 7th August:
My Nani's Birthday, My Nani's Wedding Anniversary and My cousin Annekas Marriage!

The wedding took place at the Balaji Mandir in Birmingham, we were all up at 6! getting ourselves ready for the day! So for the wedding I'd bought 2 saris for the actual wedding from Malaysia, but after opening a suitcase full of my mums old sari's I couldn't resist. Old is gold eh? For the wedding itself I wore a red and white hand painted sari, then in the evening I wore a deep purple and white pure silk printed sari. Utter Gorj <3

We arrived at the wedding just after 10, just in time for the groom to arrive. The whole ceremony was new to me, to be completley honest I don't really ever understand what's going on... But being a close family wedding, I actually payed more attention :)

There was a little ritual they did as he entered, then as soon as he stepped on the Mandip... It was our job to steal his shoes :D It's a tradition thing, the cousins & sister of the brides side steal the shoes of the groom... and don't give it him back until he gives us money! His friends got to it first though... so we spent the first part chasing after his friends through the carpark in saris and heels! I honestly thought my sari was going to fall off! lol. One of the guys eventually gave in and gave us 'one' shoe, he claims it was because he felt sorry for us with our heels... personally I think he just got tired of running!

One of the guys bless him, slipped and fell over. I didn't realise how bad it was until I saw him at the reception in the evening with a walking stick!!

We managed to get the other shoe, thanks to the photographer! Then we grabbed the car keys of Mama and hid them in his car :) We then came back into the hall and sat in our seats as the ceremony began... There were some things the groom had to do before the bride (my cousin) entered. And OMG she looked stunning!! Her outfit was so beautfiul... I want it!! She entered the hall with my Mama and Mami (uncle and aunt). They did the full cereony including walking around the fire :D They looked stunning together! and their outfits were amazing. Both Sanjay and Annekas. The priest ties their chunaris together, and I can't even explain how stunning it looked when they were standing next to each other.

I can't believe she's not a Shah anymore! It hit me when she changed her last name on facebook!

After the wedding was over, people gathered upstairs for some good fooood!! I think we were all hungry! and then individually everyone left a video message for them outside. The weather was a bit hit and miss, but luckily the sun was shining when the photographs were taken outdside.. :D

The Vidai took place after lunch. Both families gathered in a line, as the bride says goodbye to her family... It makes it official that she's part of the grooms family now. Everyone got really emotional, I was looking around me and everyone was in tears. As she walked through the line we all gathered behind her to walk out with her and say goodbye at the car. Another small little tradition... Us cousins had to stand in front of the car, and not let them go until Sanjay bribes us with some money... :) My money got spent on a round of drinks at the damn bar!

Wedding Over.

Me and mum went back to Nottingham for literally... a quick half an hour change before driving back upto Birmingham again for the reception...Changing your sari, your make up and bangles in half an hour is stressful! lol... My bangles were already half enough to get of. like seriously, I have cuts all over my hands from them! But we made it back for the reception in time...

I was dancing all night... and could feel how unfit I was after the first 5minutes lol, but I carried on for the full 3/4 hours... Happy Days!
Everyone looked stunning, and it was the perfect day. I had such a good time, and wish them both all the happiness in the world! I didn't want the night to end! Seeing all our family together was so nice! and hope it happens again soon!

Nicki & Manny
*congratulations*
So today was their wedding day, and to be completly honest I never cry at weddings... but it was so beautiful... I couldn't stop myself! I've never known a couple more suited for each other then them, and if you'd ever met them - trust me you'd understand why. Both are devoted Christians, and their wedding took place at the Christian Centre...
His family are from Nigeria, and hers are English.
Due to culture differences, they had to make compromises... and have been together 4 years! before they could officialy tied the knot. My mum was the make up artist at the wedding, we've know them for about 2years now, through them coming to our salon. And have become friends via that.
I'll upload a picture when I get them of my camera, but her dress was complete and utter Gorj!

Chunari!

So my cousins wedding's coming up next Saturday, which I am sooo excited for!! Especially after today, It's got me into the wedding mood :) This is like the first close family wedding we've had, it's my first cousin Anneka getting married.
Today was like a religious event called the 'Chunari' it's where the groom side gives the bride gifts and dresses a 'Chunari' on her which is like a sari really. Everyone looked amazing, I love that we can look like walking fluorescent lights on weddings :D The bride to be looked absolutley beautiful!
The ceremony started of with both sides of the family greeting each other, we welcomed the grooms side in at the doorway, before we went into the hall. There was a beautiful Mandip set up, with seats at the front. The priest did his part and completed some ritual, before the bride to be made her entrance. The music was playing in the background, and I think her entry song was 'Hum Tum, from the film Hum Tum'

Anneka went on stage with her sister supporting her, then the groom Sanjay joined. Sanjay's family presented gifts to Anneka, and wrapped a 'Chunari' around her. It was fascinating to watch!

We all went up on the Mandip to greet them, and congratulate them :) And took lots of photos, which I have none of lol. But my cousins sending me them all tonight, so I will post them up!!

She's already sent me this one, which is of my cousin Reshma, Anneka and myself.

I wish I could pull it off, Damn these models!

CHLOE AW 10/11
Holidays, Bored much. You know how it is, I started looking through collections and came across CHLOE's Autumn/Winter 10-11. I've never been a fan of Chloe, it's always been the same colours, the same style. Well that's what I thought, perhaps because I never really payed much attention to the actual garments. But I completley love this collection! Maybe it's just the tan colour I love, and the slouchy look they have about them. They look relaxed and so comfortable!
Plus look how fit the models are! My hair can never look that good.uh.

My Grandma Has Cool Cardigans... What Does Yours Have?
It's all practically vintage! Uff some of the old cardigans and jewellary my Nani has... is right on trend!! I've been nosying around through all the draws and wardrobes at my Nani's house and have found some pretty interesting stuff. Which she has given me permission to 'borrow' / take it back to Nottingham with me :D
Love her.
Housewife Much ?
So I have been without internet for just under the week! It is ridiculous how much we rely on it! But it's up and running now, I'm in Luton at the moment and feel like a housewife in training
My Nani has been really unwell, so I've been doing all the cooking and cleaning! She's taught me how to make the rotis and all the different currys. I'm slightly impressed with my cooking skills I must say. I took pictures on my phone, so when I can be bothered to upload them up, I will!
It's been a bit of an emotional week, my Nani has to go in for an operation on Monday where she'll stay for the week. It's hard to deal with, this is the first time she's been really bad - I treat her like my mum.
I was meant to be coming home on Sunday but after finding this out my stay is extending! :) I don't think I've ever stayed in Luton without my Nani being there.
On a positive note, I've managed to get a LOT of work done for this project. Nearly at the end of my first sketchbook, so happy days!! I love it, I never realised how interesting it would actually be. I'm so focused!
